DAV Public School, NTS, Barkakana, a leading school in the coalfields belt of Jharkhand started functioning as a DAV institution from 1st November 1987 with an approximate strength of 250 students, 12 teachers and 5 other staff members. The school is jointly managed by the DAV College Managing Committee New Delhi and Central Coalfields Ltd, Ranchi. Despite being located in a remote part of the state, we have made a significant progress of over the years and now it stands a Senior Secondary School with three wings in the +2 level. With student strength of 1500 and classes from LKG-XII the school now boasts of catering three streams Science , Commerce & Humanities in the Senior Secondary level.
The campus spans in three buildings which houses all the sections the Principal’s chamber, the office and the staff room. In addition we are proud to have four spacious and well equipped labs for demonstrations of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Lately we have also acquired an Audio Visual Lab where we have all the facilities of e-teaching. Last but not the least is our library which harbours some of the priceless collections of books amounting to nearby 10,000. The campus has been beautified with flower beds and petted plants that add colour to the joys of children while learning. This session renovation work of the teacher’s toilet and water supply system has been accomplished with a boring pump in the campus itself. Children now have ample supply of filtered and chilled drinking water which is provided by several filters and three water coolers in the campus.
In order to give the sportive spree of the children a decisive direction, two badminton courts, a volleyball court, and three grounds are available in the campus.
The co-curricular part of education is accomplished by undertaking several competitions and cultural shows and this is fulfilled by permanent stages built at different parts of the campus in addition to the River View Club which is located at a close proximity from the main campus.
Over the years the school has been striving against the odds of coalfields culture to achieve the ultimate and be an English medium school in the true sense of the term.
The CCL authorities bestowed the school with ample number of buses of around 12 in number and one out of which is separately run for children coming from IAG & Ramgarh, the nearest district town.
Nestled in the lap of nature and far from the madding turmoil of cities DAV Barkakana has been the riche where the secrets of achievement and fulfillment lie. So the ‘Little Star’ that had once started twinkling is now the polestar which is the guiding light of every ambitious youngster.
